Crunching crispy colorful maple leaves as I drag my feet noisily through the gutters is one of my all time favorite things to do! The weather is cool. The colors are breathtaking. In these conditions, I could walk forever.
Fall is simply the best time of year!
Last year, after one of our trees fell, clipping the roof and damaging the gutters, we decided it was time to address the mature landscaping around our house.
Many of the trees were diseased and it was only a matter of time before they fell too. Yet as the limbs, trunks, and stumps were removed, I couldn’t help but cry.
The yard would never look the same again.
These were the trees my kids played under, where adventures and imaginations flourished, where the zip line allowed them to zoom through the air and made the dog go crazy. These trees made “Leaf Jumping” an annual event.
Change is hard. Especially when what “used to be” was so incredibly good.
Yet, fall is a time when “change” looks and sounds beautiful.
For a while our yard was nothing but mud, and it was hard to imagine that it would ever be beautiful.
But one year later… it’s lovely! We have flowers that bloom throughout the year. I smell the scent of roses as I walk up the driveway, and the maples we planted are just beginning to turn.
